We invite you to discover more about each of our areas of expertise and how we strive to stay at the forefront of Assisted Reproduction.
Uterine Pathology and Fertility Unit
At FIV Valencia, we recognize the crucial role of the uterus in achieving a successful pregnancy—its role is as important as that of the embryo. Therefore, we have a dedicated unit led by Dr. Joana Vilaplana that focuses on evaluating and treating uterine pathologies.
Conditions such as adenomyosis, uterine fibroids (especially submucosal fibroids), endometrial polyps, and uterine malformations are well-known factors that can impede embryo implantation or lead to miscarriages.
Dysmorphic Uterus: A Uterine Pathology that Can Cause Infertility
In recent years, another uterine pathology has been identified in addition to those previously mentioned, i.e. dysmorphic uteri. These are uteri that may appear normal in size and shape, but their structure, cavity, and endometrial thickness deviate significantly from the norm. At FIV Valencia, we have found that one in four patients consulting for fertility issues has a dysmorphic uterus.
Dysmorphic uteri can prevent embryo implantation and lead to recurrent miscarriages. There are three types of dysmorphic uteri: the hypoplastic uterus, the tubular uterus, and the T-shaped uterus.
Tailored to Individual Needs: The Importance of a Fertility Diagnosis
At FIV Valencia, we offer an Individualised Diagnostic Study (EDI) to assess ovarian reserve through ultrasound (antral follicle count) and anti-Müllerian hormone testing, along with a 2D and 3D uterine study to thoroughly evaluate uterine receptivity. This allows us to identify any pathologies that may be contributing to infertility and/or sterility.
After an initial consultation (in-person or via video consultation) and a comprehensive review of your medical and reproductive history, we will recommend the best strategy to decide when and how you want to begin your Assisted Reproduction treatment.
